MEETING SITES: The meeting sites for all Yosemite 2008 tours is at the designated trailhead parking lot for
each tour. Yosemite Summit Tour meets at the Sunrise Lakes Trailhead and the Yosemite Half Dome Tour
meets at the Glacier Point Trailhead.
For all sites where the first day is just a meeting day and there is to be no hiking that day, meeting sites will be at
developed campgrounds within the park. The primary meeting campsites are as follows:
Grand Canyon North Rim (Thunder River Trail): North Rim Group Campsites
Grand Canyon National Park NORTH RIM is located 30 miles south of Jacob Lake on Highway 67; the canyon rim is an additional
14 miles south. Jacob Lake is located in northern Arizona on Highway 89A, not far from the Utah border.
Grand Canyon South Rim: Mather South Rim Group Campsites
Grand Canyon National Park SOUTH RIM is located 60 miles north of Williams, Arizona (via route 64 from Interstate 40) and 80
miles northwest of Flagstaff (via route 180).
Joshua Tree: Indian Cove Group Campsites
Indian Cove is located in the North Western portion of Joshua Tree National Park off of HWY 62. There is an entrance station about
two miles before the turnoff for the group sites. Typically, that entrance station is closed and there is NO fee to enter the park.
Yosemite: Tuolumne Meadows Group/Family Campsites or Hodgedon Meadows Group/Family
Campsites
We will meet up on the starting day for most of our trips at either the Tuolumne Meadows Group/Family Campsites located near
the Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center in Tuolumne Meadows or at the Hodgedon Meadows Group/Family Campsites at the West
Entrance to Yosemite National Park. Both campsites are located along the Tioga Pass, which is the main east-west highway
running through Yosemite National Park. A select few trips will utilize the Yosemite Valley campsites but due to availability and
trailhead access we try to limit our use of those campsites. [Map]
Once everyone arrives we will distribute gear (as required), then provide a nice dinner and a detail orientation of
the staff and the trip, including what to expect each day (terrain, sites, weather, water sites, etc.).
PARKING: Parking is available at most campsites and Trailheads.
GEAR: All group gear is included in the trip fee. Group gear includes water filters, stoves, fuel, pots/pans, bear
bins, first aid kits, and more. For more information on our gear CLICK HERE.
Remember, everything you bring has to go in your pack. The lighter your pack is, the more enjoyable your
hiking will be. Do not bring any excessively large or heavy. Repackage all your toiletries or other items to
reduce their size and so that you only bring exactly what you will utilize on the trip. Keep in mind that we will be
giving everyone some group gear and food to carry on top of your personal items.
TRANSPORTATION: Backcountry Found does NOT provide transportation. Please provide your own airline and
ground transportation. If you would like to carpool with the other participants please coordinate amongst
yourselves as many of you may be coming into the same airports or coming from the same areas.
